This article will explain a method to fix a known issue where users might get an error trying to open ShadowLink on Windows Vista or Windows 7 machines.

This error can be resolved by taking the following steps:
1. Navigate to the folder where ShadowLink is installed. By default this should be:
For 32 bit systems: C:\Program Files\Emdat\ShadowLink
or
For 64 bit systems: C:\Program Files (x86)\Emdat\ShadowLink
2. Right click on the file named: ShadowlinkClientUI.exe and select Properties.
3. Select the Compatibility tab and make the following changes as shown below:
A) Place a check mark in the option "Run this program in compatibility mode for"
B) Use the drop down menu to select Windows XP (Service Pack __) where the blank is the highest number available.
C) Place a check mark in the option "Run this program as administrator" if able.

4. Click OK
5. Repeat steps 2-4 for the files ShadowlinkClient.exe and ShadowlinkUpdateService.exe.
ShadowLink should now startup with no errors as normal.
