There are two dictionaries that must be removed, and two dictionaries that must be added in order for the spell checker to be setup as British.
1. Select "Options" from the Menu.
2. Select "Spelling & Typing Options".
You will notice the following box will appear with spelling and typing options as well as the dictionaries that are loaded (bottom of the screen).
The first box will list "CLX" dictionaries. These are dictionaries that are compiled and cannot be changed by the user.
3. Select "ssceam2.clx" and press "Remove" to the right.
4. Select "sscema2.clx" and press "Remove" to the right.
NOTE: The files above contain the letters "am" (first file) and "ma" (second file). The first is the American dictionary. The second is the Medical American dictionary. We are removing these and replacing them with the "BR" and the "MB" versions (British & Medical British).
5. Select "sscebr2.clx" from the right and press "Add".
6. Select "sscemb2.clx" from the right and press "Add".
7. Ensure that EmdatBR.clx shows up within the compiled dictionary list.
The result of this will give you the standard British dictionary and the medical British dictionary. The Emdat dictionaries (CLX) are compiled by Emdat and are mostly medical words, but may contain a difference in spelling between British and American dictionaries. You may remove these dictionaries (anything with Emdat) if you wish.
